Sportsman's
Dinner a success - PICS NOW ADDED!...
Our inaugural Sportsman's Dinner took place
at the Hilton Hotel in Bradford on Saturday September 29, and it
proved to be a very successful evening! Our guest speaker Jeff Winter (pictured
showing Alistair the red card!) regailed us with many
stories relating to his time as a Premiership referee and comedian
Gary Marshall had the audience in stitches with his award-winning
stand-up routine. It was also an excellent evening for charity as
we raised over £1000
for the Manorlands
Sue Ryder Hospice in Oxenhope. The club would like to thank Shane
Whitford and Dave Hall for all their hard work in organising such
a magnificent evening.
Click here to view all of our pictures from
the Dinner.
Keep your eyes peeled over the coming months
as the details of our 2008 Sportsman's Dinner are announced. We are
currently in talks with David 'Bumble' Lloyd with a view to him being
our guest speaker at next years event... it will be an evening not
to be missed!

Treble
completed with bowl-out win at Oakworth...
Well, the 2007 Wynn Cup finally reached a
climax on Sunday... but it wasn't how you'd expect!
We won the toss on a very windy but dry lunchtime
and decided to bat first. Steve Welch and Dave Cavanagh were first
up, but both struggled to take runs off some tight Oakworth bowling.
Steve was first to go in the 10th over with only 18 on the board,
and then Cav followed shortly after with the score on 19. Gaz Marshall
was the next man out in the 17th over with the score on 33, and then
a decent partnership between Paddy Clark and Chris Welch ended in
the 29th over when Chris was caught and bowled for 25 as we struggled
to 79-4. Shane came and went next ball which brought skipper Aidy
Powis to the crease, and he and Paddy shared a solid partnership
of 71 in ten overs, with Aidy scoring 37 before he became another
caught and bowled victim. With the help of Phil Poole who hit 20
not out, Paddy guided us to a respectable 193-6 with an excellent
72 not out before the rain came yet again to bring a halt to proceedings.
Oakworths innings did eventually get under way as they reached 23-0
in the 4th over before the rain became much heavier, which finally
brought the game to a very wet conclusion.
After much debate it was decided that the
Wynn Cup would be won and lost on a bowl-out. Five nominated players
(our 'fab five' are pictured above, left to right
- Dave Robinson, Chris Welch, Dave Hall, Gaz Marshall and Phil Poole) have
one ball each at the unguarded stumps, much
like a penalty shootout in football. With the crowd gathered
'round it was Chris Welch who had the dubious honour of having the
first attempt... it didn't phase him though as he knocked the off
stump out of the ground to give us a 1-0 lead. The pressure seemed
to get to the home side as they went on to miss three in a row while
for us, Dave Hall missed but Dave Robinson and then Phil Poole struck
the stumps with great accuracy to bring home the Wynn Cup for the
second time in three years and complete a memorable season for the
club, as the first team won the league, the Wynn Cup and the Keighley
Cup and the second team gained promotion to division four.

Title
comes to Cullingworth after win at Thornton-in-Craven...
After a long, hard season, the Craven League
Division One title is heading to Cullingworth for the first time.
We were victorious in our winner takes all battle at Thornton-in-Craven
by 85 runs this afternoon. Batting first after losing the toss, we
made a solid 225-4 in our 45 overs. Dave Cavanagh got us off to a
decent start with 63, but it was the partnership between Gareth Marshall
(56 not out) and Chris Welch (46 not out) that allowed us to break
the 200 barrier. In reply, Thornton made a decent start but collapsed
from 83-2 to 102-8 in the space of just 5 overs and were eventually
dismissed for 140 in the 38th over with Dave Hall taking 5-33 off
11 and Gaz Marshall completing a good personal performance with 3-31.
Cue the celebrations! (pictured above)
The 2nd XI were hosting Denholme knowing
that only a win would be good enough to give them a chance of the
Division Five title.
Denholme batted first and made a solid 208. Ryan Clark produced the
best figures, taking 5-56 off 12.5 overs. Chasing a score of 200
plus was never going to be easy, especially in the fading light,
but we got there with few hiccups to finish the season on a high.
Once again, Andy Hodgson top scored with 67, Karl Bennett hit 57
& Iain Holmes smashed 37 as we coasted home by 6 wickets with 13
overs to spare to and in the process gained the local bragging rights
for this year.

Keighley
Cup retained in style...
Sunday's Keighley Cup final was a comfortable
affair against Division three neighbours Wilsden. We batted first
and made a relatively decent 226-6 from our 45 overs, with Dave Cavanagh (pictured
in action) notching
his 200th run
in
just two days with a typically solid knock of 81. He was well backed-up
by Gareth Marshall with 47, Skipper Aidy Powis' 31 not out and Phil
Poole's 19 not out. Wilsden suffered a double blow before they even
came out of the pavilion as they were two men down, including the
captain, due to injuries picked-up whilst in the field. Things didn't
get much better when play began with only three men reaching double
figures as they were bowled out for just 64 in the 34th over. The
pick of the bowlers were Chris Welch who bagged 2-14 off 6.3 overs
and Gareth Marshall who finished with 2-15 off 7. After the fun and
games, skipper Aidy Powis stepped-up to collect our third Keighley
Cup in four years (see picture).

1st
team set-up final day decider as 2nds slip-up at West End...
On Saturday we entertained Bingley Congs
in what was a must-win game if we were to stay in the hunt for the
title. The visitors batted first and posted a very respectable
225-7 in their 45 overs with Gareth Marshall's 4-98 off 14 overs
the pick of our bowling attack. Our reply was swift and dominant
as we raced to a 9 wicket victory in the 36th over. Steve Welch made
57 in an opening stand of 145 with Dave Cavanagh who yet again showed
his class with a magnificent 120 not out as we went back to the top
of the table going in to this weeks winner takes all match at Thornton-in-Craven.
Over at Haworth West End, the second XI were involved in their own
top of the table clash. The home side won the toss and chose to make
first use of a decent looking strip. We held them well for most of
their innings as they looked like they'd struggle to top 200, but
a late burst of runs saw them reach 237-8 in their 45 overs. Our
reply began well, if a touch slow, as we gradually fell behind the
run rate. Iain Holmes came in at 3, and along with Martyn Rendell
at 4 and Andy Hodgson at 5 we set about the home attack and lifted
ourselves into a winable position. Once we lost Martyn, Hodgy and
then Iain Holmes for an excellent 68 the tide started to turn in
favour of the home team. Our lower middle order faught valiantly
in the fading light, especially Russ Hogg who was knocked down by
a beamer, only to get up and hit the next two balls straight out
of the ground for 6! Unfortunately we were too far off the run rate
and our innings came to a close on 225-8, just 12 runs shy of victory.
We still have a chance of the title if West End lose at Chatburn
and we beat Denholme on the final day of the season this Saturday.

Cup
Update...
The rain came again on Sunday to yet again
force the cancellation of the Wynn Cup Final. The game will now be
played at Oakworth on Sunday September 16 with a 1pm start. Meanwhile,
the Keighley Cup Final will be taking place at Keighley Cricket Club
this Sunday, September 9, as we take on Wilsden hoping to retain
the trophy we won last year. Please come down and give us your support.
The game begins at 1pm.

First
team off top after defeat at Haworth...
After a poor defeat at relegation-threatened
Haworth on Saturday, we're left with a must-win game at home to Bingley
Congs if we are to stay in the hunt for the Division One title. Haworth
batted first, with captain Jamie Rowell hitting 76no to help his
side to 198-5 in their overs. Our reply never got out of second gear
as we were dismissed for 167 in the 42nd over. Several players got
in but nobody scored above 29. The second team set up a Division
Five title decider at Haworth West End on Saturday with a 114 run
defeat of Glusburn. Batting first, we slumped to 82-8 but were rescued
by a ninth-wicket partnership of 98 between Andy Hodgson (80) and
skipper Alistair Campbell with 40 as we posted a total of 196. The
visitors had a reasonable start in reply, but they soon folded and
were bowled out for 82 in the 28th over with Martyn taking 5-45 off
14 and Russ finished with 4-28 off 13.5.

First
team stay top as 2nds are promoted at Skipton...
The first XI kept-up their title charge with
a comfortable home win against Cowling. We batted first and made
237-9 in our 45 overs. Yet again Dave Cavanagh was the star man
hitting an excellent 82, he was helped along the way by George Fletcher's
48 and Phil Poole's 24. In reply, Cowling were never in the running
as they were bowled-out for just 95, with Dave Robinson taking 5-37
and Dave Hall 5-20 as we completed a 142 run victory to keep our
title hopes on track. It was an excellent day for the Second team
over at Skipton C.I., having won the toss and chose to field we bowled
the home side out for 74, with Martyn taking 6-26 and at the same
time passing 50 league wickets for the season. Our reply started
slowly as we lost four cheap wickets but a good partnership between
Karl Bennett and Michael Hardaker (pictured) saw us over the line
with plenty of overs to spare. That win guaranteed us promotion to
Division Four after three years in the basement, and we also went
back to the top of the table after Haworth West End went down to
only their second defeat of the season over at Carleton against Glusburn.

Yet
another weekend washout...
Both the first XI's trip to Embsay and the
Second's game against Pendle Forest were abandoned on Saturday, but
it wasn't all bad news as Pendle were forced to concede the game
in the morning due to only having six available players, therefore
all three points were awarded to the 2nd XI which means just one
more win will guarantee promotion to the fourth division. Today's
Wynn Cup final against Oakworth was called-off at 10:30am due to
the terrible weather conditions. The final will now take place on
Sunday September 2 at 1pm.

Big defeat
in cup rehersal and easy win at Eldwick...
We
were on the wrong end of a magnificent game against
Oakworth in a dress rehearsal of this Sunday's Wynn Cup Final. We
batted first and smashed a massive 323-5 in our 45 overs. The innings
was built on an opening stand of 219 by Dave
Cavanagh who made 110 and Steve Welch 100 (both
pictured) .
They were backed-up by Gaz Marshall's 52 and Chris
Welch with 33. Unfortunately, our bowling and fielding wasn't quite
up to the same standard! After restricting Oakworth to 137-3, we
then failed to take another wicket as the visitors produced an unbroken
fourth wicket partnership of 187 to give them a 7 wicket win with
17 balls to spare. The 2nd XI were visiting 10-man Eldwick & Gilstead
in a must-win division 5 game. We batted first and slumped to 60-6
before Stuart Holmes guided us to 153 all out in the 40th over with
a solid 37 not out. Eldwick's reply started well enough as they
reached 18-0, but once the first wicket fell they collapsed to 30
all out with Martyn adding to his tally for the season with 6-10
off 13 overs and Russ Hogg backed him up with 3-16 off 12.

First
team hit the top & Martyn reaches 50...
The first team went a point clear at the
top of division one after a rain delayed win at 9 man Sutton. The
home side batted first and were bowled-out for to 156. Our run chase
was limited to just 23 overs and didn't begin until 18:50 due to
heavy rain, but neither that or the Sutton bowlers could stop us
as we charged to an eight wicket win thanks to Dav Cavanagh's quick-fire
49 and Chris Welch's equally fast 48 not out. Back at home, the second
team were hosting Cononley in a must win game if we're serious about
getting out of division five. The visitors batted first but didn't
last long as they were bowled out for 113 in the 31st over. Martyn
Rendell did most of the damage with 4-50 in his 14 overs, in doing
so he passed 50 wickets for the season so congratulations to Martyn!
Our reply didn't begin too well but a solid middle order performance
from Andy Hodgson (31), Martyn (21), Rob Gumbley (17) and Stuart
Holmes with 16 not out saw us stutter over the line for a 3 wicket
victory in the 32nd over.

First team reach final
as second's slip-up...
The first XI have reached the final of the
Wynn Cup yet again after defeating their Division One rivals Thornton-in-Craven
at Bradley. We batted first on a slow track and were bowled out for
just 161. Dave Cavanagh (pictured) dominated
the innings with a magnificent knock of 98, only one other
batsman managed to reach double-figures as we struggled to adapt
to the conditions. In reply, Thornton found it just as hard, as they
never really got going against our tight bowling attack. They were
all back in the changing room for 136 in the 44th over, with the
wickets shared between Phil Poole 2-18, Dave Robinson 2-24, Chris
Welch 2-29, Dave Hall 1-26 and Gareth Marshall 1-29. We will
play Oakworth in the final on Sunday August the 19th at Oakworth. Over
at Sutton, the second XI were playing Haworth Road in the Cowling
Cup semi final. We won the toss and chose to bat first, but soon
regretted it as we slumped to 36-5 off 18 overs, losing Darren Outlaw,
Stuart Holmes, Martyn Rendell, Alistair Campbell and Russell Hogg.
We were looking doomed until an excellent partnership between Andy
Hodgson (56) and Michael Hardaker (36) coupled with a late flurry
by the tail allowed us to reach 153-9 off our 45 overs. Haworth Roads
reply began badly as Martyn and Andy took a wicket each to reduce
them to 2-2 off 6 overs. Unfortunately, our lack of runs proved costly
as a few loose overs coupled with some slack fielding allowed Haworth
Road to slowly creep towards the finish line. We kept taking wickets
at crucial times but ultimately it wasn't enough as Haworth Road
completed a three wicket win in the 40th over, sending them to the
final where they will meet the Cowling Cup holders Oakworth on Sunday
August the 12th.

Revenge
gained against 'flatts, and no game at Gargrave...
The first team avenged their only defeat
of the season by handing a 145 run defeat to Crossflatts.
Batting first, we started slowly with the loss of Dave Cavanagh,
Steve Welch and Gareth Marshall early on, but there was a strong
middle order fightback with Andy Hodgson (pictured) Hitting 63,
Chris Welch 40 and skipper Aidy Powis chipped in with 34 as we posted
a reasonable total of 200-8 in our 45 overs. Crossflatts' reply
never really got going as they were skittled for just 55 with Andy
Hodgson completing a man of the match performance
with 5-30 off 7 overs.
Chris Welch took 3-25 off 8 and Phil Poole finished with 2-0 off
his only over. The second XI had to settle for a point as their
game at Gargrave was cancelled on Friday.

Seconds
join firsts in Cup Semi-Finals...
The 2nd XI's Cowling Cup Quarter-Final eventually
got underway on Sunday, but only after it was switched from Long
Lee to Cullingworth due to the weather. After a lot of mopping up
a 35 over game began at 3pm, with Long Lee winning the toss and choosing
to bat. They lost their captain early on, bowled by Martyn Rendell,
but then made steady progress before losing their third wicket
with the score on 110, just as the rain fell with eight overs to
remaining. Tea was taken early, and after 30-40 minutes
of rain we were back out on the field. The visitors didn't like the
wet conditions, or our tight bowling as they only
managed 140-9 in their 35 overs, with Martyn
taking 5-46 off 9, Russ
took 3-37 off 9, Johnny Lockwood 1-29 off 8 & Andy Hodgson 0-26 off
his 9 overs. Our reply started slowly and it wasn't long before Steve
Dinsdale had to retire hurt with just 2 to his name. In came Martyn
Rendell but he was soon back in the pavilion after being bowled for
0. John Terry then had two decent partnerships with Russ Hogg (10)
and Stuart Holmes (13) before Andy Hodgson came to the crease and
blasted 55 not out, which along with John's excellent knock of 56 guided us into the Semi-Final with 4.5 overs to spare. Both
Semi-Finals will take place this Sunday, July 29. The first XI's
Wynn Cup Semi against Thornton-in-Craven will be at Bradley, and
the second XI's Cowling Cup Semi against Haworth Road will take place
at Sutton-in-Craven's ground, both with a 2pm start.

Rain's the winner again as both
games are cancelled...
Yet more heavy rain during the week and all
day on Saturday meant that the 1st XI's trip to Bradley and the 2nd
teams game against Foulridge both became victims of the weather.
july nineteen 2007
Both
teams beat the rain, and their opponents...
After yet more heavy rain during the week,
there was some doubt as to wether this weeks games would go ahead.
But, due to some excellent mopping-up by the first team, the game
against Sandy Lane was played. The visitors batted first and posted
a very tough 218-8 in their 45 overs, with Gaz Marshall taking 4-61
off his 14 and Dave Robinson finishing with 3-51 also off 14. Our
reply was a steady one, with no-one taking the initiative, so it
was down to Aidy Powis to produce a Captain's knock of 41 not out
to help guide us home in the 38th over. Over at Pendle Forest, the
2nd XI won a vital toss and put the home side in. They struggled
early on due to some fine bowling from Russ Hogg and Andy Hodgson,
but yet more slack fielding coupled with some wayward bowling allowed
Pendle to post a below-par total of 84 as they were finally bowled
out in the 40th over, with Russ Hogg as the chief destroyer taking
5-34 off his 20 overs. Our reply began steadily, with a stand of
25 for the first wicket before John Terry was trapped LBW for 11.
He was soon back on the field though, acting as a runner for Steve
Dinsdale who picked up a thigh strain early-on. It didn't deter him
though as he batted through the innings to finish 34 not out and
guide us to a vital 7 wicket win in the 28th over.

Win
at Ingrow sets up top-of-table semi-final clash...
The first XI finally managed to play their
much delayed Wynn Cup quarter final at Ingrow on Sunday. The home
side batted first and were dismissed for 121 in the 36th over, mainly
thanks to Chris Welch who took 5-28. In reply, Steve Welch knuckled-down
as wickets fell around him as he batted through the innings for a
solid 71 not out to guide us through to a mouth watering semi-final
clash with Thornton-in-Craven.

First
XI join the leaders as 2nds ease past Riddlesden...
A big win at Glusburn along with Thornton
being rained-off and Crossflatts losing at home to Embsay mean that
the first team are now joint top of Division 1. Batting first at
Glusburn, we hit a formidable 236-4, Glusburn were never in the running
as we bowled them out for just 119 to record a 117 run victory. More
details to follow. Back at home, skipper for the day Alistair
Campbell won a crucial toss and put the visitors in to bat. It looked
like a great decision as they were reduced to 6-3 and 17-4, with
only a decent partnership for the 5th wicket allowing Riddlesden
to reach a total of 93 all out in the 20th over. Chief destroyer
was Ryan Clark who took 5-10 off his 4 overs. In reply, Steve Dinsdale
was joined by debutant John Terry at the top of the order and they
put on 45 before Steve Dinsdale was caught behind for 32. John Terry
didn't last much longer as he was also caught behind for a solid
20, which added to his 2 catches and the fielding point meant an
excellent debut. Stuart Holmes didn't last long before being run
out which left Martyn Rendell with 31 not out to guide us home in
the 24th over with 7 wickets to spare.

Rain still reigns as cup games
roll on to next week...
Both cup quarter finals fell victim to the
heavy rain as there was no play at Ingrow or Long Lee on Sunday.
The First XI's Wynn Cup game must now be decided next week after
a second straight washout and a date for the 2nd XI's Cowling Cup
game at Long Lee is to be decided by the League committee as the
teams couldn't reach a satisfactory agreement.

1st
team run-riot at Congs as 2nds defeat the leaders...
Both our batsmen and bowlers ran riot down at
Bingley Congs. Batting first, our innings lasted just 36.2 overs
as we hammered 286-4 before declaring, Gaz
Marshall lead the way with an excellent 113no off
just 78 balls which included seven sixes and 10 fours. Aussie Dave
Cavanagh scored 60, Steve Welch 52 and Chris Welch 46 (off 29 balls).
Congs reply didn't last long as they were skittled for just 40 (Chris
Welch 5-19 and Dave Hall 2-6) in the 15th over
to give us a massive 246 run victory. Back at home the second XI
were hosting the undefeated league leaders Haworth West End. The
visitors batted first and were bowled out for just 148. Our reply
started badly as we we reduced to 13-3, but a three-figure partnership
between Andy Hodgson who smashed 91 and Alistair Campbell got us
within touching distance of the finishing line - we then lost 3 quick
wickets before we crept over the line, recording a three wicket victory
to inflict a first defeat of the season on the visitors and at the
same time closing the gap at the top to just one point.

Rain
can't dampen spirit as both teams win...
After a very wet week, both teams managed
to get a game - and they both had crucial wins. At home, the first
team eventually began a 25 over per side game against Haworth after
a lot of mopping-up. The visitors batted first and were limited
to just 104-8, with Dave Robinson continued his fine form with
the ball, finishing with 6-32 off 12 overs. Our reply didn't take
long as Dave Cavanagh's 64 helped us to a swift 8 wicket victory.
The second XI visited Glusburn III (at Carleton) and came away with
a vital win. Andy Hodgson followed his Cowling Cup century of last
Sunday with a stunning 135 to guide us to 236-6. The home side made
a good fight of their reply, although they were helped
by our butter-fingered fielding as we dropped 9 catches in restricting
Glusburn to 221-9, with Andy Hodgson capping an excellent performance
by taking 4-44.

Excellent
win at 'Flatts sets up Quarter-Final at Long Lee...
It was a hot and humid day down at Crossflatts
as we attempted to reach the Cowling Cup Quarter-Finals for the first
time. We won a vital toss and chose to bat first on an excellent
looking wicket. We made a solid start, reaching the first drinks
break at 51-0 (15 overs). Steve Dinsdale (40) was then bowled by
the first ball of the 16th over, Iain Holmes was joined at the crease
by Martyn and they added 53 for the second wicket before Martyn
was trapped LBW for 14. Alistair Campbell didn't last long before
being stumped and then Iain Holmes was bowled for 40. Andy
Hodgson came
to the crease at 108-3 and blasted his way to an excellent 104
not out to leave us
with a commanding total of 266-9 from our 45 overs. Needing nearly
6 runs per over from the start was never going to be easy, especially
after being out in the heat for nearly three hours, and it proved
to be so as the home side never really got going, and were finally
bowled-out for 208 in the 41st over with all the bowlers, and fielders,
putting in a lot of hard work to set up a Quarter-Final tie at Long
Lee on Sunday July 1st.
JUNE eleven 2007
Solid
win at Cowling as 2nds scrape past Oakworth...
Our 1st XI moved to within two points of
top with a solid win at Cowling. Batting first, we posted a decent
total of 221-5, mainly thanks to the Welch brothers
- Steve hitting 109 not out and
Chris scoring 39. The home side's reply was restricted to
174 by some tight bowling from Dave Robinson (3-38)
and Gaz Marshall (4-60), which meant we left Cowling with another
three points in the bag.
Back at home the second XI were involved in a low scoring affair
against Oakworth. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat but
were soon regretting it as they slumped to 57-7 thanks to some tight
bowling from Martyn Rendell (3-24) and Russell Hogg (2-27), unfortunately
we then lost our way, allowing Oakworth to add 75 runs for the final
three wicket - finally bowling them out for 132 in the 44th over.
Our innings began as badly as Oakworth's, as we stumbled to 64-7
with only Martyn's 35 and Stuart Holmes with 20 (in a stand of 39
for the 7th wicket) putting up and kind of resistance to a decent
Oakworth attack. We finally crawled over the line in the 39th over
thanks to an unbroken 9th wicket partnership of 25 between Rob Gumbley
and Iain Wilson.

Rain
saves Long Lee from massive defeat...
The first XI hosted Long Lee on Sunday
in the second round of the Wynn Cup. We won the toss and chose to
bat on a good flat track. Dave Cavanagh and Steve Welch built a
solid start to the innings with an excellent 200 partnership. Cav finished
with 128 and Steve hit 76,
they were well backed-up by Paddy Clarke (36) Gaz Marshall (32) and
George Fletcher with 29 on the way to a big total of 334
for 5. In
reply, Long Lee couldn't handle the pace of Chris
Welch (4- 19) and Dave Robinson (2- 18) and were left stranded on 44-7 when the rain came - at which point the
visiting captain conceded the tie to us, which saved everyone having
to return on Monday night for what would've been an inevitable defeat.

Maiden
win over Embsay as 2nds feel the heat at Chatburn...
Embsay were the visitors this week as we
aimed to inflict defeat on them for the first time since joining
the Craven & District League. Things were looking all too familiar
as the visitors batted first and coasted to 238-1 in their 45 overs,
with Dave Robinson taking the solitary wicket. Our reply was judged
to perfection as Karl Bennett came in at number 11 and struck the
winning runs in the 43rd over, with Gareth Marshall hitting 83, Steve
Welch 40 and Dave Cavanagh 35, as we reached our target with only
1 wicket remaining to finally break Embsay's six year hold over us
to record a vital win that keeps us in the running for the Division
1 title. The 2nd XI were over in Lancashire for a game against an
ever-improving Chatburn. We won the toss and chose to field - and
did the job very well, finally bowling the hosts out for 141 in the
44th over with Ryan Clark putting himself through the pain barrier
to take 4-37. Sadly, for the second time this season our efforts
with the bat didn't match our bowling endevour, with only Martyn's
45 troubling Chatburn's attack as we were rolled-over for 115 in
the 40th over - 26 runs shy of our target.

Crucial
win at Oakworth, and second XI go run-crazy!...
The first XI made the trip up to Oakworth
looking to bounce back after defeat at Crossflatts in their last
outing, and also claim early bragging rights against one of our main
rivals. Things were going well as Dave Robinson's 4-52 helped to
restrict the hosts to a below-par total of 119. Our reply didn't
begin at all well as we were quickly reduced to 45-6. The situation
was soon recovered as an excellent partnership between Shane Whitford
(35 n.o.) and Phil Poole (34 n.o.) saw us home with three wickets
to spare. Back at home the second team hosted Eldwick & Gilstead
in what was a crucial game as we looked to get back on track after
last Saturday's poor display at Cononley. We won the toss and chose
to bat on a very hard track. Our innings began at a frantic pace
as Steve Dinsdale completed his half-century in only the 8th
over, he was finally out for 60 in the 12th over, ending a one-sided
first wicket partnership of 78. Iain Holmes was then joined at the
crease by Martyn Rendell (39) as they completed an equally rapid
century partnership for the second wicket. Andy Hodgson was next
in at 4, he struck a typically quick-fire 72 before being dismissed
on the final ball of the innings, watching all of this from the other
end was Iain Holmes who played magnificently throughout the innings
to carry his bat and record his maiden century, finishing 106
not out in
our magnificent total of 317-3. In reply the visitors
were never allowed to get going as Martyn ran through the top order,
finishing with 6-16 off 10 overs. The tail wagged very slightly but
it wasn't enough as Eldwick were dismissed for just 67, completing
a commanding 250 run victory.

Second round cup ties...
The draw has been completed for the second
round of both cup competitions. The 1st XI will host Long Lee in
the Wynn Cup on Sunday June 3, while the 2nd XI will visit Crossflatts
for their Cowling Cup second round tie on Sunday June 10.
MAY TWENTY-ONE 2007
Solid
Cowling Cup win for Seconds...
The 2nd XI entertained Gargrave for the
second time in a week, this time a place in the next round of the
Cowling Cup was at stake. The visitors won the toss and chose to
bat on a flat but slightly damp wicket. We were made to work hard
in the field by some very aggressive top/middle order Gargrave batsmen,
with Martyn being launched over the boundary four times in one over!
Crucially, we kept taking wickets and eventually bowled them out
for 158 in the 36th over (George Edward Fletcher III 3-23, Russell
Hogg 3-31, Ryan Clark
3-36 - and Mick Hardaker took 3 catches). Our reply started well
with a partnership of 49 for the first wicket before Iain Holmes
was out in the teens, George Fletcher came to the crease but didn't
last long before being trapped LBW (he did get some bat
on it though!) Martyn Rendell came in at number four and helped to
take the score into the 90's before Steve Dinsdale was bowled just
2 shy of a half- century. Mick Hardaker joined Martyn in the middle
and they guided us to a seven wicket victory with 11 overs to
spare, Martyn finished 66 not out.
MAY NINETEEN 2007
Washout
at home as seconds slip-up at Cononley...
Heavy overnight rain meant that the fist
XI's home game against Sutton became a victim of the weather, both
teams receive 1 point. Over at Cononley, the 2nd XI won the toss
and asked the hosts to bat on a damp, bowler-friendly wicket. It
was a struggle throughout for the home team as they were bowled out
for 78 in the 36th over with Ryan Clark taking 3 wickets in four
balls, finishing with 4-20 off 8 overs, and at the other end Johnny
Lockwood had excellent figures of 3-6 off his 5 overs. The batting
was a different story altogether, with a distinct lack of application
on a slow wicket, too many poor shots coupled with some fine bowling
and fielding meant we were skittled for just 58 in the 28th over,
suffering our first defeat of the season.

First
team deflated at 'Flatts...
On the first wet Saturday of the season,
our 1st XI suffered defeat at the hands of Crossflatts. The home
side batted first and posted a reasonable 197-7 off their 45 overs.
It proved to be too much for our off-form batsmen as we were skittled
for just 143. Back at Cullingworth the wicket was pretty wet after
a lot of rain during the week, which led to some frantic mopping-up
to allow us to start on time. We won a crucial toss and decided to
put the visitors in, although we made hard work of the favourable
conditions as Gargrave cruised to 40-1 without much trouble... that
is until Martyn got into his rhythm, he tore through Gargrave's
batting to finish with excellent figures of 8-29 of 14 overs as we
bowled them out for 74 in the 28th over. Our reply started well as
we reached 50-1 off 11 overs (Steve Dinsdale 19), and a quickfire
17 from Ryan Clark plus an amazingly fast (for
him anyway!) 13 from
Stuart Holmes saw us over the line in the 16th over for the loss
of four wickets.
MAY EIGHT 2007
Still
undefeated...
The first XI remain undefeated in division
one after hammering previously unbeaten Bradley at home. The visitors
batted first on another gloriously sunny afternoon, but they could
never get to grips with David Robinson who again returned magnificent
figures of 6-34 to leave Bradley back in the pavilion with just 119
to their name. Such a low total was never going to be any trouble
for Gareth Marshall (60) and Steve Welch (50) as we strolled to an
8 wicket victory in double-quick time. The 2nd's visited Oakworth's
third XI for their division five match-up. The home side won the
toss and chose to bat. Some decent batting coupled with a generally
lacklustre fielding performance allowed Oakworth to post a total
of 144 as they were bowled out in the 37th over with skipper Dave
Hall taking 4-50 and Martyn Rendell 3-43. Our reply began very well,
with a solid partnership of 50 for the first wicket (Steve Dinsdale
41), we then lost a couple of cheap wickets but Andy Hodgson's 51
n.o. helped to guide us home with 10 overs to spare as we registered
a comfortable 6 wicket victory.

Both
teams win big in week two...
The First XI recorded their first win
of the 2007 season with a comfortable 125 run victory at Sandy
Lane. Having been asked to bat after losing the toss, we posted a
respectable total of 192-8 off our 45 overs, Steve Welch top scoring
with 59. The home teams reply didn't last very long as David Robinson's
5-17 helped to polish them off for just 73. Back at home, the 2nd
XI won the toss and chose to bat first against Sutton-in-Craven.
On a sunny, but very windy day, there were some solid performances
throughout the middle-order, with Andy Hodgson hitting 57, Russell
Hogg 32, Alistair Campbell 30 and Darren Outlaw 28 in our score of
222-8. In reply, Sutton were bowled-out for 133 with Martyn Rendell
finishing with excellent figures of 5-18 off 11 overs.

1st
XI opener ends in tie as 2nds win at Riddlesden...
The first XI's 2007 season got off
to an unusual start with the home game against Glusburn ending
in a tie. Glusburn got first use of a very dry track and were bowled
out for 224, with Chris Welch taking 5-56. In reply we could only
match the visitors score with an excellent debut knock of 62 from
Paddy Clark and 37 from Gareth Marshall .
Down at Riddlesden, captain Dave Hall won the toss and put the home
team in to bat on another dry (but very uneven) track. The home team
were kept in check at the start by some very tight bowling from Russell
Hogg & Karl
Bennett as the home side struggled to get a grip on our bowling attack.
Riddlesden were eventually skittled-out in the 34th over for just
53 with captain Dave Hall as the main destroyer with 5-17 off his
10 overs - including his first ever hat-trick! Our reply had a wobbly
start, losing both openers with just 6 on the board, but a solid
partnership between Stuart Holmes and Martyn Rendell steadied the
ship as we reached the finishing line for the loss of just 3 wickets
in the 21st over, mainly thanks to Martyn's unbeaten 29.
